Meet Morgan Clifford, of Morgan Clifford

Hi Morgan! How did you come to start your company?

My love of coats- but could never find them when I wanted to. Ever since I was young I'd want a coat for the upcoming fall and winter season; but I'd have to go to a hundred different stores and look through a many different designers. I always just wanted a go-to coat spot, I felt like it should exist.

Tell us more about the the label...

It's called Morgan Clifford and the style is contemporary, classic yet young. And we'll be launching with ten coats this fall after actively working on the project for over a year. Every coat of mine has a feminine silhouette with edgy contemporary detailing.

What was the hardest part?

The hardest part was actually starting and following through. Once you get over that hump, then the momentum is there.

Has taking on this endeavor affected your personal life in any way?

This definitely made me more passionate about life... more excited with having more going on.

Best advice you received?

Just take one day at a time and maximize your skills in one area. Many brands started by mastering a specific article of clothing.

Seeing celebrities* wear your label on the red carpet- what does that feel like?

It's the most satisfying feeling- to see something that was originally a sketch of mine worn on the red carpet by someone who loves it and then get picked up by magazines. And its addictive, it makes me want to do more. *Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black), Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World), Bailey Noble (True Blood), Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars), Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars) and more!

Did being a female entrepreneur have any impact on people's perceptions of or reactions to the project?

I have gotten people that assume I'm part of a team and were shocked to find out that I was a one-woman show (at the time). They thought I was an employee of a bigger company. Honestly, it was kind of flattering, that clearly I was coming across as very legitimate.

Have any advice for other people thinking about starting their own business?

Just go for it! You have to really be able to pound the pavement and take chances.
